One Eternal Round
If I were to tell you about a kid who is inexplicably fussy, has acne and eats like it’ll all be gone tomorrow I know what you would think. But no, Célia Marie hasn’t hit puberty. Apparently it’s normal for babies. I guess life is just one long loop through which we cycle again and again. We begin life wrinkled, toothless and incontinent and we end life the same way.
And in between, we start others on that same cycle.
The Adams Family is doing very well. Célia and Carolyn are healthy and happy, secure in the knowledge that Brian adores them. Their two-week checkup showed that Célia had surpassed her birth weight and was showing no signs of slowing down. Carolyn’s recovery is progressing without mishap. Célia is ever so slowly learning to sleep at night. Carolyn does her best to handle most night issues so that Brian won’t keep falling asleep at his computer and having his coworkers laugh at him. But the battle is not yet won.
A recent development has us in a bit of turmoil. We received abrupt notification this week that our apartment is being sold immediately with no guarantee that the purchaser will allow us to stay beyond June. Much evidence points to collusion on the part of the realtor and owner in knowing the sale was imminent when we signed our lease, but there is nothing we can do about it. We are looking into our options.
Despite this rude shock we are all learning to adjust to our new familial setting. This learning is liberally supplemented with help from friends here and family back home. Brian’s Mom spent 10 days here easing our transition into parenthood. Carolyn’s parents get their turn in two weeks to spend some time with the Fair One. Also, our friends in Brisbane have been generous with their meals, advice and moral support.
